At Printpack India 2015, Valco Melton, one of the worlds leading suppliers of adhesive dispensing equipment and quality inspection systems, showcased its solutions along with products from the GMS line-up. California-based GMS has been a front-runner in the graphic arts industry since 1977, which was acquired by Valco Melton in September 2014.
Show attendees had the opportunity to see first-hand some of the GMS print finishing solutions, including the Microglue 228 Series Controller and Microglue HM10 System. Microglue 228 is one of the most user-friendly, two-channel pattern controllers on the market and a leading solution for web presses, commercial folders, pocket folder-gluers, and conveyor and tipping or card inserting systems. The 228 high power constant current outputs can be configured to allow customers to operate various types of glue or tape applicators. It also allows real-time adjustments to its outputs, making it easy for operators to get the exact pattern needed.
Microglue HM10 is the simplest and easiest to use two-channel, all-in-one system currently available. By combining the user-friendly Microglue 228 Pattern Controller with the innovative technology of the HM25 melt unit, Microglue HM10 offers customers performance in one convenient package. System features include a two-channel, two events per channel pattern controller; 10-pound melt tank with digital pressure control; distance-based pattern stitching capability; and two optical sensor inputs and two encoder inputs. Moreover, on display from Valco Melton were a range of other guns and nozzles from one of the worlds largest selections of industry standard compatible spare parts. The GMS range of other hot-melt and cold-glue systems were also displayed.
Frank Serrano, service manager of GMS while explaining the practicalities and the technicalities of the line-up said, The Microgluer is one of our most successful products not only in India but also in other places such as South America, Mexico and Russia. The HM10 is a new product which has been launched only a year back which is a very affordable and small hot-melt system. Apart from GMS products, Valco Melton has showcased some of its own products such as the B5, which is a PUR hot melt machine which has a book binding application which can also be used a box-making application. Its standard range of EC machines are also displayed which can be used for food-form or beverages packaging.
Valco Melton is showcasing an innovation which it has carried out in the newspaper industry with Times of India about which Ravi Kiran, director of Valco Melton India said, Now Times of India newspaper is coming out with our adhesive application. The first or last page advertisements or any pages in between are glued by our application which is a four-wall system that they are using. Even in our B5 machine, books can be folded 360 and can be held up by a single page only without fear of getting teared. In corrugation box-making, more and more companies are adopting a glue system instead of the traditional pin-system. Valco Melton also manufactures the Clear Vision inspection systems which inspects by taking pictures of the corrugated boxes moving down the assembly line during gluing, folding, print registration, labeling, inserting, scoring and bundle ejection.
Kiran told Packaging South Asia that since Valco Meltons Indian operations started in 2010, the company has been growing at a very fast pace almost 100% by every year and this current financial year is going to be no exception since it has received the added boost of the GMS line-up. However, a few challenges remain in the market since the perception of cost cutting or compromising quality because of costs is still persisting, feels Kiran. He is however bullish about the overall growth prospects of Valco Melton India in and around the Indian subcontinent in the next few years.
