Official US launch of the biscuit-on-edge packaging system
For biscuit and cookie manufacturers, Bosch did live demonstration of the new mid-range biscuit-on-edge packaging system consisting of vibratory channels, a loader, feeder as well as the Pack 301 LS horizontal flow wrapper—combined with the new Paloma D3 robotic feedplacer and the Kliklok Enterprise endload cartoner that features Bosch’s new HMI. The solution was officially launched at Pack Expo International this year. Also for the biscuit and cookies segment, there was a new SVE 3220 DZ Doy Zip VFFS machine including an integrated scale in combination with the CCM 3100 case packer.

For dairy manufacturers, Bosch demonstrated integrated yogurt filling solution consisting of an Osgood S-Series fill-and-seal machine and a Kliklok Elite wraparound cartoner.

High-speed horizontal packaging system with wash-down capabilities was also on display, which is suitable for frozen food applications like ice cream. The system comprises a Sigpack DCIE indirect distribution station, a Sigpack HBM horizontal flow wrapper and the Sigpack TTM cartoner. Bosch also showed hygienic continuous motion VFFS bagger SVC 2620 for the fresh and frozen industry that features three cleaning options—from dry wipe down, low-pressure right through to high-pressure with cleaning agents.
Another highlight of the Bosch pavilion was its Makat line of lab depositor for accurate product testing for jellies including medicated and functional gummies as well as a drying room. Making its debut in North America, the GML03 lab depositor and the laboratory drying room are key elements to test jelly in smaller volumes, perfect for experimental or seasonal product testing.

Next generation HMI
As part of its industry 4.0, Bosch unveiled its next generation Human Machine Interface HMI 4.0 at Pack Expo International. According to Bosch, the HMI 4.0 is suited for both stand-alone machines and entire lines. As for Interpack 2017, Bosch will successively equip all new machines of its processing and packaging units with the HMI 4.0. A major new feature of the HMI is its guided workflows, which lead operators through each step of the production process. The same applies to format changes, cleaning and maintenance as well as other processes. Tailored to specific user roles, such as operator or line manager, the HMI 4.0 only displays the processes relevant to the current user. In case of production downtime, operators immediately receive a notification including information about the causes and troubleshooting support to quickly restart their machines.

The HMI 4.0 was shown for the first time at FachPack 2016 in Nuremberg, Germany in September. At Pack Expo, Bosch presented the HMI 4.0 on a Kliklok Enterprise endload cartoner for bag-in-box solutions by the Bosch subsidiary Kliklok-Woodman.
