Dombivili-based Label Solutions has installed a brand-new Taiyo STF340 10-color narrow web flexo press supplied by Standard Printers Providers. The press was showcased to visitors during an open house organized by Standard Printers in association with Label Solutions. The press, which offers a maximum web width of 340 mm, was installed in late March and now operates alongside a pre-owned Mark Andy press that Label Solutions bought three years ago when the company started operations. This is the second Taiyo STF340 10-color press installed in India by Standard Printers, the first one being installed at Delhi’s Regal Creative. Japan-based Taiyo has factories in both Japan and China.

Label Solutions is managed by three partners, B.S. Rana, Sunil Sawant and Hemant Pathak, who have rich experience in the labels industry. Before finalizing the order, the management of Label Solutions visited the Taiyo factory in China to see the whole production process and also visited a Taiyo customer near Shanghai to witness how Taiyo technology is being utilized. The press installed at Label Solutions is a shaftless press with multiple servo motors; the impression drums come with chilling so as to work on thin substrates. It has a short web path, heavy duty frame structure, movable cold-stamp unit and print cylinder with support ring, among others. The press features an inspection system from BST Eltromat.

“We were very impressed with what we saw at Taiyo’s factory in China and then with what their customer was doing. That customer has 40 Taiyo presses installed at his plant and does some amazing work. We also saw other brands as well but decided to opt for the Taiyo,” says Rana. After the commissioning of the new Taiyo press, the converting capacity of Label Solutions has gone up from 55,000 square meters per month to 100,000 square meters per month.

Label Solutions caters mainly to the FMCG and cosmetics segments and with this new press in service will look to offer many different types of labelling solutions. “This press can handle a range of substrates from 20 microns to 350 gsm paperboard. This should give us a lot of flexibility to work on many different solutions,” says Sawant.

Label Solutions has gone in for a rotary screen printing unit and this will be fitted on the machine next month, says Gaurav Sachdev of Standard Printers. Talking about the response shown by the label industry to Taiyo presses, Sachdev says that customers are now showing intertest in Taiyo technology as two presses are now operating in India with two more expected to arrive in India soon.

“There are two more presses which will be coming to India soon. One has been ordered by a customer in Mumbai while the other has been bought by a customer from outside Mumbai. Details about the same will be provided later,” says Sachdev.
