Prepress and postpress solutionsMalhotra Graphics showcases PackZ and StudioRIPAt Printpack 2015, Malhotra Graphics displayed a host of end-to-end prepress solutions for both flexo and offset as well as high-end finishing solutions for digital printing. “Printpack is a great show and we are getting good response with serious customers visiting our stand,” says Bimal Chaku, VP marketing and sales of Malhotra Graphics. The packaging prepress solution highlighted at the show was Xeikon ThermoflexX Digital Imager, displayed for the first time in India. One of the key benefits of the ThermoflexX imager is a unique 5080 dpi imaging resolution. The imager accepts 1-bit tiff files from any workflow or front-end. The company also displayed Renz Mobi 500, a flexible, semi-automatic binding machine for books, calendars and skipbinding. However, special focus was on the packaging segment with software solutions like Packz, Studio RIP on display.L – R: Bimal Chaku, VP marketing and sales of Malhotra Graphics; and Luc Buttiens, international sales director of Packz Software at Printpack India 2015. Photo PSAMalhotra Graphics showcased the prepress software of its UK-based partner StudioRIP. The software, StudioRIP, is a PostScript Level 3 and PDF 1.7 compliant suite designed to drive a comprehensive range of output devices including CtPs, inkjet and laser printers or any other printing devices. Unlike other RIPs, all studio features are written into the core software, eliminating potential conflicts in many plug-in workflow solutions. “StudioRIP can take care of all kinds of RIPs – be it flexo, gravure or offset. We have already sold over a dozen of this solution till now. The best part of this solution is its reasonable price,” says Chaku.

The other prepress software showcased at the event was PackZ, which was first launched in India at Pamex 2013. The software is completely built around Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF) and has a versatile set of dedicated prepress functions to make designs ready for any printing process. “We have a couple of customers in India now. The market penetration has just started six months ago and we have a lot of interested customers in flexo-labels, gravure, flexo and offset packaging,” says Luc Buttiens, international sales director at Packz Software.

In Packz, PDF documents are directly opened without intermediate conversion into an internal file format, and are displayed as color managed previews. The intuitive user interface gives access to a multilingual work environment in which the operator can customize shortcuts, define workspaces and access standard prepress editing features. Packz has the ability to create barcodes, such as EAN8 and 13, Quick Response, Data Matrix, Laetus, UTF-14 and others. It has an intelligent trapping algorithm that performs fast, interactive and automatic trapping. Trapping can be applied on the entire file or on a selection, using the same technology. All traps are stored in a database and are marked on a separate layer, which provides easy handling, repeatability and user friendliness.
