At Pack Expo, Kodak’s Graphics Communications Group has introduced ahigh resolution imaging device for cost effectively printing lenticulareffects on flexo presses. The new Kodak Flexcel NX system combinesinterlacing technology from Pixalen Studio and rolled lens stock fromPacur to eliminate conventional lenticular flexographic printingproblems like print resolution, dot size and press registration.According to Pixalen Studio, the dot size is so precise that it reallyworks well with lenticular printing. It has further been combined withPixalen’s Chromalen technology to eliminate registration problems aswell as parallax shift in 3D images. The result is claimed to produce aclean image with seamless depth. This should enable cost effectivelenticular flexo printing on rolls for applications like labels andflexible packaging.
According to John Anderson, Flexo Plate Product Manager – Americas of Kodak’s GCG, “The award winning KODAK NEXCEL NX Digital Flexographic System enables a wide variety of applications, and the lenticular printing is another great example of its versatility. Once again, Kodak is raising the bar of flexo printing by bringing the unique benefits of lenticular printing to the highly competitive packaging market at an affordable price.”

Tim Goggins, Director of Pixalen Studio, says, “The FLEXCEL NX System is amazing. The dot size is so precise – it really works well with lenticular. We’ve combined it with our Chromalen technology on three different flexographic presses, and we’ve had three successes.”

Pacur is the world’s largest extruder of lenticular material and has developed a new rolled lenticular stock specifically for the flexo market.
