L – R: Sten Sarap, CEO of LabelPrint OÜ, and Helmuth Munter, segment manager – labels and package printing, Durst, with the newly installed Tau 330 label press

Durst, a specialist in industrial inkjet applications, has installed the Tau 330 digital UV inkjet printing system in Eastern Europe at LabelPrint OÜ in Peetri, Estonia. The Tau 330 is outfitted with Xaar 1002 single-pass print heads, the system features a maximum printing width of 330 mm and a maximum print speed of 48 running metres a minute. This enables the Tau 330 to achieve production capacity of 950 square metres in an hour. The standard ink configuration in CMYK can optionally be enhanced with white and two other process colors, such as orange and violet, which are essential for label applications with Pantone color spaces. Comprehensive RIP software with integrated substrate and color management functions is included with all Tau 330s, including the standard model.

With its new high-definition print mode, the Tau 330 is capable of achieving a resolution of 720 x 1260 dpi, a considerable improvement in print quality resulting in razor-sharp text and fine details in graphics and images. To optimize productivity with a fully digital end-to-end work flow, the Tau 330 can optionally be outfitted with a new, linear digital laser finishing system from punching technology specialist Spartanics. Equipped with a powerful 1000-Wattlaser,this system enables automatic job and order changing in a single pass.

The Tau 330 can also use the new Tau low-migration UV inks from Sunjet for printing on primary food packaging. With these inks, the Durst Tau 330’s spectrum is expanded to include self-supporting films such as aluminum lids for a wide variety of applications. The newly installed inert gas system also reduces the typical odour created by UV inkjet inks to fulfil the requirements of the food and pharmaceutical industries for relatively odour-free print.
