The Chandigarh-headquartered Toppan Specialty Films, a subsidiary of the global Japanese conglomerate Toppan, made a significant impact at the 25th LMAI Conference, held from July 3 to 6 July 2025, in Udaipur. The company unveiled its new product, JPSLO, a next-generation facestock label film aimed at the Indian label industry with its focus on recyclability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
In conversation with Packaging South Asia, Om Prakash Joshi, key account manager – North and East, said India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws are a key driver for the shift prompting packaging overhauls across the industry. “Converters who simplify structures and think circularly win brand trust. The future is collaborative—in essence, when converters join design-stage discussions, recyclability, printability, and compliance align from day one.”
Toppan showcased JPSLO, a product specifically developed for label applications. “JPSLO is a next-generation facestock label film that leverages cutting-edge Japanese technology,” Joshi explained.

“It’s designed to offer superior ink anchorage and print quality, along with excellent runnability for printers and converters. Importantly, it’s a cost-effective solution, which is particularly vital for the price-conscious Indian market. For the first time in history, Japanese technology is providing such an economical yet high-performance solution.”
Available thicknesses of 58 and 65 microns, JPSLO is adaptable to various converting and finishing processes for both pressure-sensitive label (PSL) and in-mold label (IML) segments. The company said JPSLO does not compromise on quality while enhancing film properties, even promising a potential reduction in overall costs for converters.
Despite industry demands for higher quality, the need for cost-effective solutions remains constant.
Toppan Specialty Films aims to balance this contrast with JPSLO. “We didn’t compromise with the quality but enhanced the properties of the films with some recipe, and the cost remains the same. The cost will be reduced for this film, and you will get the best results,” Joshi said.
During a presentation, Hardik Patel, national sales head at Toppan Specialty Films, emphasized the evolving demands of the packaging sector. “Today’s packaging must be certifiably recyclable, perform under pressure, and reduce carbon. Mono-material is the way forward.” He highlighted Toppan’s mono-material films, engineered to rival the strength and functionality of traditional PET/foil combinations, but without the environmental burden of ending up in landfills. These films boast high-barrier properties, clarity, and are fully recyclable.”
Toppan Specialty Films confirmed its participation in Labelexpo Europe. While acknowledging the impact of geopolitical issues on the international market, the company expressed optimism about the Indian market’s growth. According to Joshi, every quarter, new machines are installed, including flexo, gravure, and offset. “That is a sign of positive growth.”
