Yupo Corporation showcased their unique 3D-IML at this year’s Plastivision, held in Goregaon, Mumbai on 19 to 23 January 2017. Yupo is part of Mitsubishi Chemicals, which produces 100% recyclable, waterproof and synthetic substrates with attributes and properties that make it a preferred solution for packaging and labeling needs. Claiming to be the largest producer of synthetic PP films of different grades, Yupo in-mold labels (IML) accounts for around 95 % of the market share in the in-mold label business.
While speaking about 3D-IML, Prashant Mandewal, general manager – business development at Yupo Corporation says, “The 3D in-mold labels can easily fuse to the contour or raised shapes of blow-molded bottles. By using robots, the preprinted in-mold labels are positioned in the molds before molding the plastic containers, and later the fusing of the label with the mold takes place. The technique produces outstanding picture quality and everlasting decoration that cannot be removed.”
He further explained, “IML-decorated thin wall containers are suitable for storage in the deep freeze and microwave conditions and used for food and FMCG products. Such solutions have been discussed with the brand owners, and the response seems to be positive as they consider it a unique solution to discourage counterfeit. The key to staying relevant in a changing marketplace is to start with product packaging. IML containers have extensive capabilities in packaging—from in-mold label technologies and tamper-evident closures. During the trade show, we received many visitors from leading FMCG companies like Hershey’s, Dabur, Pidilite and a few others at our stand.”
