With a large plant located in the Delhi-NCR region, Carbon Light manufactures for the packaging, paper and film, mining, printing and machinery manufacturing industries. The company is a subsidiary of North Street Cooling Tower.
Carbon Light displayed its rubber-covered carbon fiber rollers at Plastindia, which are an efficient replacement for traditional aluminum or steel rollers and are 50 to 80% lighter in comparison. Other advantages include higher vibration dampening capacity and the capability of being run at higher critical speeds for faster production.
Carbon fiber rollers are highly corrosion resistant, naturally balanced and have higher thermal stability over a wider temperature range. Since they are lighter in weight with

smaller diameters for the same service specifications and conditions compared with conventional metal rollers, they offer lower moment of inertia, which in turn reduces the load on the motor and on materials in contact with the rollers.
The rollers displayed at Plastindia included combinations of elastomeric coatings, metallic coatings and ceramic coatings. In elastomeric coatings, a variety of grooving patterns for various applications such as air elimination and high traction are offered. The company dynamically balances and rigorously tests each roller at its critical speed on a specially designed testing rig.
“We have OEM customers who are machine manufacturers and have been using our products and showing them on their machines at various exhibitions,” said Anuj Bansal,

technical manager of Carbon Light. “If you have five manufacturers of the same machine, not everyone will use carbon fiber, but the ones who do will always point out that they’re using carbon fiber rollers because they weigh less and have a range of other advantages.
“This is the first time we are participating in Plastindia and it has been fruitful for us. It has helped us reach out to a number of potential customers and to interact with and educate a lot of visitors. Educating the customer is very important for us considering our product is fairly new to the Indian market.”
“Those who knew about this product from their visit to exhibitions in Germany and elsewhere, were fascinated to see an Indian company manufacturing it locally. The Europeans sell this product at a fairly higher price considering its advantages, but from us it is quite affordable. At Plastindia, we realized that this is one of those products the Indian market was waiting for,” Bansal added.
