There has been a change in trends. We now sell less of machines and more system solutions. This is the need of the Indian packaging market,” said Ashok Gourish, business head, Packaging Technology Division of Bosch during the ‘Beyond Mobility Tech Day’ event held in Bengaluru on. Bosch showcased for the first time its extensive range of connected and smart solutions in the business sectors beyond mobility in India.

Talking about Bosch’s Goa plant, which was commissioned four years ago, Gourish said it has performed extremely well. Bosch has been able to design, develop and manufacture many products suitable for the Indian packaging market. “Our product portfolio has increased substantially in recent years and we have achieved double-digit growth in sales. In addition to emerging markets, some of our machines are even being sold in developed markets,” he said.

The Goa plant makes a variety of vertical and horizontal form fill sealing machines as well as wrapping machines.

Gourish believes greater automation is expected to take place in the Indian secondary packaging sector. “Top tier companies have already moved towards complete automation and now I see even medium-sized players adopting greater automation. This will give a big boost to packaging solutions providers and create huge potential,” he said.

In terms of trends, he said that horizontal and secondary packaging segments will see a much faster growth than vertical. Another trend he highlighted was that Save Food program, which is now being enthusiastically advocated by the Indian government authorities, will open a great area of growth for solution providers.

“We have good focus on these growth areas and will offer solutions with very attractive cost-to-performance ratio,” he said.
