JK Labels marked its presence at InnoPack Pharma conference which was held in Mumbai on 18 and 19 May by putting up a stall at the venue where the company displayed a variety of solutions for labelling needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Present at the stand were two young directors of the company, Karan Kapur and Rahul Kapur.

Karan Kapur, who was also among the speakers at the event, told Packaging South Asia that he has been studying the the role of labels in packaging safety and compliance. Kapur said, “In pharma packaging the safest containers are usually of glass as far migration from labels but since there are many cost and logistic advantages in using PET and other plastics, the entire packaging and labelling system and protocol must be scientifically established including the container, the inks and adhesives used for labelling as well as the label application machinery. The inks should be water-based and the label manufacturing process has to be low migration friendly which also includes the adhesive. The label production also needs to take place in safe, healthy and environmentally friendly conditions.”

During the two-day Innopack event, the Kapurs interacted with all types of visitors from the pharmaceutical industry and got to know about different pain points. Visitors were from the procurement department as well as supply chain department. There were purchase managers and also managerial people who visited the JK Labels stand.

“The pharma industry in India has become extremely conscious about compliance after US and EU guidelines. Nobody is taking any chances when it comes to labels. They want the inks right, they want adhesives right. And for that the industry is looking for packaging and label converters who have all the systems in place,” Karan Kapur stated. The JK Labels plant in Mumbai with five label presses including two Gallus EM 280s, sets great store in monitoring inputs and end products as well as systmes and compliances.

There were a large number of enquiries about the various products on display. “There was lot of keenness among the visitors to know about our products,” said Rahul Kapur. Talking about the InnoPack Pharma conference, the Kapurs said that it was a very well organized event managed by a great team adding that with many senior members of the industry among the speakers talking about a variety of topics it was a great opportunity to share insights.
