Jodhpur-based Umax Packaging is among the top five flexible packaging converters in India. It has four units in the country with a combined converting capacity of 3,500 tons per month. Three units are located in Rajasthan while the fourth one is located in Assam. The Guwahati plant is the newest one which was commissioned in March 2017. At the IFCA Star Awards held in December 2017, Umax Packaging was among the big winners and bagged four awards.

customers in the snacks, spices, dairy and confectionary segments, among others, Uma Packaging Professionals supplies flexible packaging solutions to customers in food staples segment such as flour, rice, wheat, grains, etc.

Umax Packaging was present at the recently concluded Plastindia 2018, where it displayed an extensive gamut of flexible packaging solutions that it can offer. The company showed solutions in pouch form, roll form, single layer and 5 layers.

According to Dinesh Lohar, business development manager, Umax Packaging, sustainability is an issue on which the company is seriously working. “We have started using water-based inks and are now looking to promote recyclable laminates,” he says.

A new CI flexo press being considered

Umax Packaging currently has a robust infrastructure with 12 rotogravure printing presses from Rotomec and Pelican. Lohar shares that Umax Packaging is now looking to bring in a CI flexo line.

“We are considering installing a CI flexo press because the jobs that require this technology are growing in India. This will also help us diversify the types of applications we can offer,” Lohar shares without disclosing when the new press will be installed.

In addition to Rotomec and Pelican rotogravure presses, Umax Packaging has dry and solvent-free laminators from Nordmeccanica and Worldly, film line, an inhouse ink kitchen, among others.
