At Labelexpo India 2014, Technova launched its entry level inkjet label press  the SmartJet that it has developed with its development partner Macart. The prototype press was earlier launched at Pamex 2013 and has been beta tested by several customers during the last year and is now ready for the commercial launch. It has the Memjet head and can print on inkjet coated paper in the range of 60 gsm to 300 gsm at a speed of 60 A4 sheets a minute. The size of paper that can be used is of 21.6 centimetres width.

The press comes with a Nice label prepress software for variable data printing with a capability to print static as well as variable data. The software is easy-to-use and can extract part data from any database and use it with existing data. It can combine records from two or more tables using the Joins software. The use of EasyForms reduces data entry errors and full serialization helps create real time arithmetic and scripting enabling the creation of complex variables.

Priced at below 10 lakhs the inkjet printer is attractively positioned in the market. Parag Pimple, general manager, sales and marketing  packaging segment of Technova says that the business was good at Labelexpo 2014 and several promising enquiries have been received. Technova is also marketing Tilia Labs prepress solution for labels that can be used to optimize layouts with an auto imposition tool run on both Windows and Mac platforms. Optimized layouts reduce cutting work and wastage and are especially useful for labels that are not regular squares or rectangles in shape.
