When Packaging South Asia visited Nichrome India’s Shirwal plant about 55 km from Pune at the end of March, it was bustling with activity. There were customers visiting, machine trials taking place on the shop floor and finished machines waiting to be dispatched. Nichrome, India’s leading form fill and seal (FFS) solutions provider, has had a very good last one year as the company launched some successful new and upgraded products and at the same time made significant breakthroughs in some new markets overseas.

The third edition of the Save Food Congress took place at the Messe Centre in Dusseldorf with a reiteration of its aims—bringing both awareness and action to a movement that needs to address the polarities of excess and want in a far too divergent world. The conference saw the renewal of agreement between the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and Messe Dusseldorf to continue their cooperation in the Save Food initiative. Save Food is one of the six initiatives of the UN KOP conference on climate change held in 2015.
Gujarat-based Knack Packaging has been manufacturing and exporting HDPE/PP woven sacks, fabrics and multicolor printed BOPP laminated PP woven sacks and bags for more than two decades. The company has its manufacturing plant in Mehsana district of Gujarat. Having been active in the export market for a long time now, with exports to 55 countries, the company finally decided to participate in interpack for the first time this year.

The company will be building a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to meet increasing customer demand in the region for its advanced caps and closures. Futura is an open platform technology that allows Prati systems to be upgraded quickly and seamlessly with the integration of additional modules to permit the handling of an extended portfolio of printed products, such as those produced with filmic materials, in-mold labels or shrink sleeves. Futura is now to be offered as standard on all Prati machines, and was unveiled at Gulf Print & Pack 2017. It was shown on a Saturn Omnia multiuse finishing system on the Printech Middle East stand.

The last one year has been an exciting one for PET solutions provider Petainer Innopac Packaging, a joint venture between Petainer UK Holdings Ltd. and Innopac Containers Pvt. Ltd. In December 2015, the company inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at the northern Mumbai suburb of Bhiwandi. Since the beginning of the operations, Petainer has managed to acquire a stellar list of customers from across the country. At the Bhiwandi plant, which is spread across 27,000 sq. ft, Petainer employs blow molding equipment from Sidel to manufacture the 20-liter bulk water cooler jars with the brand name petainerCooler, using preforms produced from Petainer’s manufacturing sites in Europe. The plant also has a fully equipped on-site design studio, laboratory services and warehousing.
The Uflex Films Business team undertook extensive R&D activities for almost two years to come up with a special polyester film that obviates the problems posed by Bi-axially Oriented Polyamide (BON) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The special polyester film has been designed to replace the top and bottom substrates of the conventional cold formed Alu – Alu laminate to a whole new structure comprising 36 micron special polyester/50 micron soft aluminum foil/36 micron special polyester.
