Vasai-based carton printer and convertor Uday Multiprint recently commissioned a brand-new DGM Smartfold 800PC folder gluer, which has helped the company double its carton folding and pasting capacity. The company — which supplies mono cartons to companies in the pharma, FMCG, electronics, cosmetic, and stationery segments — operates from a number of galas in Pushparaj Industrial Estate with a combined area of 20,000 square feet.

Dhruv Shetty, partner at Uday Multiprint, said the new folder gluer has been able to sort out a lot of problems in the converting section. “We had the DGM installed in July and are very happy with the machine’s performance. We have no complaints. The Smartfold 800PC has helped us double our carton folding and pasting capacity,” Shetty added.

Shetty said the best part of the deal is that DGM provided the company with the entire suite of attachments even though it does not require them at the moment. “So, we now do not have to worry about going back to DGM in the future whenever we require a new attachment. We are now equipped to process any type of carton as and when required,” he said.

Shetty said that before buying the DGM, the company explored other Chinese options but DGM’s strong India presence made the difference.

We looked at a lot of other Chinese options but what clinched the deal in favor of DGM was their strong local team. Excellent after-sales and quick resolution of problems is very important for us. This is where the presence of a local team comes in handy,” Shetty said.

Uday Multiprint is using the DGM Smartfold 800PC folder gluer to process all types of cartons, including crash lock bottom, hang sell cartons, and cartons with window patching.

Puneet Aggarwal, managing director, DGM India said, “Uday Multiprint’s promotors are very professional. They were very clear in the first meeting about what they were doing, what they wanted now, and what they wanted for the future. Although the project got delayed by three months during the implementation phase due to space issues, they ensured that they honored their commitment.”

Along with the DGM folder gluer, Uday Multiprint has bought a new die cutter. The company has two offset presses in its printing department — a 6-color Komori with a coater and a 2-color Heidelberg.

New plant is in the works

Shetty said the company plans to consolidate its operations under one roof by building a new manufacturing unit on a parcel of land it bought in Vasai, close to the Pushparaj Industrial Estate.

“We plan to build a new manufacturing unit on the land so that we can have a modern facility with seamless operations,” he said.

The company also plans to set up a pre-press department in-house. At the moment, Uday Multiprint’s pre-press requirements are outsourced.

“I feel that having an in-house pre-press section will be of great help. It will give us greater control over the jobs. In the near future, we will look to have our own CtP system, sample maker, and pre-press software,” Shetty said.
