On 6 January 2014, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) laid the foundation of a six-storey building, which will accommodate International Packaging Center (IPC) and academic facilities for B Tech and M Tech course in packaging and management at the IIP campus in Andheri, Mumbai. IIP’s new B Tech and M Tech courses will be the first of its kind course for packaging in Asia-Pacific region. Apart from this, the institute has a two-year post-graduate diploma as its flagship course.
“Though the packaging industry has enough number of professionals, the converting industry needs a lot of technical staff,” explains NC Saha, director, IIP. There are over 10,000 companies in the converters industry that need over one lakh professionals, he says. “IIP took this opportunity to develop the above mentioned two courses.”
The course curriculum has been designed by professors from IITB, VJTI, NITI, NID and Jadavpur University, and vetted by the industry with contributions from Tata Tin Plate, ITC Group, Reliance Industries, Triveni Group and Windmoller & Holscher. Course modules will
have 50% engineering component and will also focus on the management aspects of the packaging and converters industry. “We are looking to develop all round professionals for the industry,” says Saha. The courses will startin2015.
