Constantia Flexibles receives Green Packaging Star Award

Constantia Flexibles, one of the world’s leading companies in the field of flexible packaging, has received the Green Packaging Star Award for its next-generation ComforLid, a die-cut lid now used by several dairy customers across Europe, including the German dairy company Schwarzwaldmilch for its refrigerated protein beverage range. The improved packaging solution significantly reduces plastic and aluminum use plus carbon emissions while maintaining convenience and premium quality.

The award ceremony took place yesterday, Wednesday, at the FACHPACK trade show in Nuremberg. Winning this award also qualifies Constantia Flexibles to submit ComforLid for the prestigious WorldStar Awards by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

ComforLid, part of Constantia Flexibles’ Ecolutions portfolio, replaces traditional plastic snap-on lids and straws with a patented lid featuring a peelable aluminum top and a coextruded plastic layer. The latest version has been enhanced and further developed, resulting in a downgauged material usage made with Low Carbon Aluminum, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 43% compared to the original specification.

The lid was downgauged from 50μ aluminum and 40g coextruded PP to 45μ aluminum and 35g coextruded PP, further reducing resource consumption. By eliminating snap-on lids and straws, the solution reduces plastic usage by up to 25 percent compared to conventional packaging.

Designed for seamless integration into customers’ existing filling lines, ComforLid enables a smooth transition without additional investment. Since mid-2025, the next-generation ComforLid has been produced exclusively with Low Carbon Aluminum, marking a significant step forward in decarbonized packaging solutions.

“We are constantly working on packaging solutions that meet high-performance standards and supporting circular economy principles. Receiving the Green Packaging Star Award reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation. Special thanks to our fantastic team for making this achievement possible,” said Stefan Lampe, head of Strategic Market Product Management Dairy & Technical Applications at Constantia Flexibles.
