James Cropper Paper and Packaging unveils Rydal Eco White at PCD Milan

James Cropper Paper & Packaging has unveiled Rydal Eco White at PCD Milan, the global stage for beauty packaging. The new fiber-based material is comprised of 100% recycled fiber, and features a crisp, clean, and brighter shade of white compared to other recycled whites in the Rydal range.

The substrate has already captured the attention of leading beauty brands and converters alike with its sharp print performance, vibrant color reproduction, and premium finish.

As James Cropper celebrates its 180th anniversary, the company’s approach to boundary-pushing innovation remains grounded in one simple question: “What if?”. This spirit of innovation has led to the development and launch of Rydal Eco, an uncoated carton board that enables brands to transition to 100% recycled packaging without compromising on quality.

Rydal Eco leverages FibreBlend Upcycled Technology and is made entirely from recycled fibre, combining the tactile luxury of uncoated board with the precision and performance typically associated with coated options. PCD Milan provided the perfect stage for the launch, bringing together designers, converters, and brand owners eager to explore the future of packaging.

“We were thrilled with the response to Rydal Eco White at PCD Milan,” said Gareth Fisher, sales director at James Cropper Paper & Packaging. “Visitors were particularly impressed by its crisp, clean white and the vibrant colors made possible through its 100% recycled fiber content. Rydal Eco White is a clear statement of how sustainable innovation doesn’t have to mean compromise – it can elevate the beauty and functionality of premium packaging.”

Ideal for high-end applications such as cosmetics, fragrances, retail, wines & spirits, gifting, and portable electronics, Rydal Eco White excels for a variety of production techniques, including lithography, silk screen, foil blocking, embossing, and die stamping. Its surface is also highly resistant, making it perfect for intricate processes like debossing and varnishing.

“We’ve taken everything we’ve learned through the Rydal range and made it even better,” added Fisher. “Rydal Eco White enables converters to achieve exceptional quality, from sharp prints to cleaner die-cuts, while helping brands meet their sustainability goals through 100% recycled fiber. This is a product that offers the premium feel and aesthetic of a virgin board, but through the lens of circularity.”

Designed for folding box board applications, Rydal Eco White is acid- and elemental chlorine-free, made from 100% recycled fibers, and is fully recyclable itself. The manufacturing process that James Cropper uses enables Rydal Eco White to maintain high brightness and whiteness despite the use of recycled fibers. This makes it a premium paper choice for even the most luxurious and demanding folding box board applications.

Rydal Eco White has a grammage of 350 gsm and a thickness of 435 µm, offering outstanding stiffness and excellent tear strength. These all contribute to the material’s suitability for demanding conversion processes, such as embossing/debossing, foil blocking, varnishing, and laser die-cutting. A high surface roughness value makes Rydal Eco White compatible with lithographic, screen, and dry toner (Xerography) print processes.
