SP Ultraflex, a specialist in converting slitter rewinders, conducted live demonstrations of its Roboslit plus series 1000 mpm dual turret slitter rewinder at drupa 2024 in Dusseldorf.

Biku Kohli, CEO of SP Ultraflex, said, “Participating in drupa 2024 for the first time as an exhibitor was an exciting milestone for us. Our advanced dual turret slitter rewinder, the Roboslit plus OHP, features innovations such as automatic job setup, 1000 mpm speed, magic trim box, and automatic off-loader.” With a positive experience at the event, the SP Ultraflex team garnered valuable exposure and insights for the future, he said.

In a video interaction with Packaging South Asia editor Naresh Khanna at drupa, Kohli said the machine is an answer to the bottleneck of changeover time between two jobs.

“The number of jobs kept increasing, leading to an increase in the number of changeovers. Many customers even had 8-10 job changeovers each day. So to address the issue, we came up with the automatic job setup feature on our machine, starting from unwinding to cutting and finally the rewinding process,” he said.

The fully automatic job setup encompasses the positioning of the web guide sensor, cutters, trim extraction nozzles, and rewind cores, effectively minimizing setup time, material consumption, and operator dependency.

With automation being the core of SP Ultraflex, Gatik Arora, senior executive sales, SP Ultraflex highlighted that both the unwind and rewind process in the machine can be aligned with the cutters with a single click. “All these can be adjusted together.”

The slitter rewinder is accompanied by a section that addresses the ‘floor to pallet’ solution as well when it comes to material handling on a slitter. “The machine can lift the reel from the floor and after the finished reels are produced, they are pushed out of the machine. The off-loader has a secondary ejector to push the finished reels to the conveyer,” Kohli said.

Explaining how the slitter rewinder works, Arora said, “The machine offers electromechanical linear floor lift instead of hydraulic lift that avoids any type of contamination, making it suitable for food and pharma industry.”

The team has sold the new technology to three companies in Russia, Dubai, and India. After drupa, it finalized the sale of a couple of machines to Nigeria, one of which is the dual turret slitter rewinder. “We are engaged in several promising discussions that we anticipate will lead to further deals soon,” Kohli said.

Talking about drupa 2024, Kohli said, “drupa 2024 provided us with a fresh perspective on global market opportunities. It was an ideal platform to showcase our products and capabilities, especially as we aim to expand our export business. The event reinforced our position in the industry and helped us connect with potential clients worldwide.”
