Visitors at Kohli Industries’ Open House held from 11 to 14 March at the Ambernath plant

The Open House attracted many visitors from across the globe. With the marketing effort of Hiten Mehta, president of the packaging division of Multigraph, there was an overwhelming response for the Open House which was originally scheduled for two days but had to be extended by two more days to accommodate all visitors. Kohli highlighted its versatility by allowing converters to bring their own printing cylinders and raw materials to conduct special trials.

“We demonstrated Thea’s ELS technology, highlighting the consistent performance of the press – the precise register accuracy, minimal makeready time, minimal wastage and one-man operation. We had an opportunity to further illustrate to visitors Thea’s print register capabilities specially during ramp up, ramp down, splice and machine restart,” the company’s director Kaku Kohli said. “Most importantly, Thea has an online energy monitoring system along with a special MIS chart helping converters to view the complete production history including real power costs.”

The Thea range of gravure presses offer speeds of 300, 350 and 400 metres a minute. Currently, Kohli is developing a new variant of Thea for slower speeds due to specific market needs. In the last six months, Thea is successfully running in several converting units in India as well as overseas.
“We would like more and more converters to move from mechanical line shaft (MLS) technology to the new ELS technology because the latter offers many advantages such as less energy consumption, higher speeds, minimum manpower, fastest changeover of new jobs and minimum wastage – a perfect press for short-runs, the current market trend,” Kohli says. “With the support of our marketing partner Multigraph, particularly Hiten Mehta, we are very confident of our success.”

Preparing for drupa
Kohli Industries is marking its presence at drupa as an exhibitor for the third consecutive time (2008, 2012 and 2016). Preparations are in full swing to ship out the machines by end of March. The company will showcase two state-of-the-art machines – Thea, the ELS press as one single print station and Gaia, the new solvent-less laminator. Team Kohli will comprise seven members who will leave 10 days prior to the event to prepare the stand and be ready for the show that commences on 31 May 2016.

“At drupa we are excited to meet our global customers and update them on what Kohli has to offer. Drupa is a wonderful platform to tell international customers that an Indian manufacturer can provide world-class technology at a very competitive price backed by global sales and service support from the overseas offices of Multigraph,” says Kohli. At drupa, Kohli Industries will be at Hall 12 Stand 12A37.

Packaging South Asia is the cooperating media partner for drupa 2016 which is scheduled to be held from 31 May to 10 June at Dusseldorf, Germany.
