Scantrust is a Swiss company that provides an Internet of Things platform for identifying products on the internet offering traceability for industries such as luxury goods, food products, industrial machines, water filters, cables, agrochemical products, and fiscal stamps.
The company was jointly present at the Traceability and Authentication forum on 6 -7 July 2023 in Delhi, with Domino Printing Sciences with whom it recently collaborated with due to their expertise in printing scan codes.
The company has developed a QR Code system with an additional layer of protection against copying, based on inserting a copy detection pattern or secure graphic that loses information when it is copied. The technology does not require special materials, inks, and modifications to printing equipment to implement the system. Related product authentication and traceability data can be stored in a blockchain.
According to Dominik Nagiller, global BD & partnership manager of Scantrust, QR codes used in their authentication and traceability systems are printed on product packaging and scanned with a smartphone to authenticate and track products. The company provides a free app to consumers, which can be used to scan products with the copy detection pattern and help detect fakes. Scanning a code with a smartphone can also offer a traceability feature with origin and supply chain information about the product made available. An enterprise app is also provided for employees, distributors, and forensic inspections.
“It’s the first time I am attending this famous forum in India. India is a big market because there are a lot of products and great brands, which result in many counterfeits. Our secure QR code gateway provides maximum security by making the QR code copy-proof. It enables you to know a customer and not only get information but authenticate it reliably. If you copy one of our QR codes, scan it and sync your output, it says, ‘oh, it must be a copy’,” Nagiller said.
Nagiller says every time someone scans a code, a signal is sent to the company’s servers and usually linked with the ERP or traceability systems of the brands. “So we provide a data point. We often work in conjunction with other data points. We work with brands and the brands work with printing partners. They often like to use the Domino K600I because it’s a state-of-the-art printer that makes it very easy to print our special QR code.”
