Flexible packaging producer Constantia Flexibles has officially committed to net zero emissions according to the standards of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

As one of the biggest players in the packaging industry, Constantia Flexibles says it recognizes its role in shaping a more sustainable future. Especially in times of climate change, setting science-based targets and driving R&D to innovate even more sustainable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, must be a key objective of any manufacturing company.

For this reason, Constantia Flexibles has decided to commit to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to achieve net zero, the company said. “We are pleased to announce this commitment and to join other organizations in leading the fight against climate change,” says Pim Vervaat, CEO of Constantia Flexibles.

“Sustainability has always been a part of our DNA therefore we continue to invest in the development of more sustainable packaging solutions, with a focus on a circular economy.” Since 2018, the company has an approved, science-based GHG emissions reduction target and is consistently working towards the goal of reducing GHG emissions across all three scopes by 24% by 2030.

“In order to remain at the forefront of sustainability, it was time to update our target to reflect the need to limit global warming to 1.5°C and achieve net zero emissions by 2050,” adds Vervaat. “We therefore have decided to increase the ambition of our target and have committed to setting a science-based net zero target in all three scopes within the next two years.”
