K2007, this year’s edition of the triennial event that is the world’s largest exposition on plastics and rubber, was held at Dusseldorf between the 24th and the 31st of October 2007 and set unprecedented records. The number of exhibitors increased from2,904 inK2004 to 3,130 this year and the number of visitors grew to about 242,000, including 138,000 overseas visitors, from231,000 duringK2004,which included 116,000 foreign visitors. This year’s visitors came from over 100 countries and all five continents. As expected, some 30,000 visitors came from Asia with India providing the largest contingent of about 10,000. Surprisingly, the share of visitors from China and Taiwan remained the same as in 2004 while a rise was recorded in the number of visitors from Thailand and Japan.

The plant and machinery building that housed almost 1,900 exhibitorswas the dominant exhibition category and attracted the most visitors. Exhibitors were very pleased with the response and Ulrich Reifenhauser, the Chairman of the K 2007 exhibitor council, was quoted as saying,“We’re heading home in the best of moods! Already during the fairitself, a remarkable number of deals were closed – some of them in themillions. We forged so many promising new contacts and recorded so manyserious enquiries regarding new projects that we feel completelyconfident about the continued growth predicted for the industry. Ouruser industries are investing vigorously money that is going into new high performance plant and equipment – toensure strong positions in what is a thriving global competition.”
