Tarsus Group, one of the larger international tradefair organisers, announced the launch of the International Food & Drink Expo India 2009. It is to be held from 2 to 4 December 2009 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
India’s food and drink market is currently estimated to be worth US$ 182 billion (INR 8.9 trillion), with rising disposable incomes and increased urbanisation driving consumer demand for high quality products. By introducing the International Food & Drink Expo India, the organisers want to provide a platform for both international and local suppliers to showcase their products and innovations directly to India’s food, drink, hospitality and retail professionals. The event is to act as a high profile launch pad for those taking their first steps into the market place, and will also offer more established companies the opportunity to enhance their existing profile and brand penetration.

“I am excited about the opportunities India has to offer worldwide food and beverage producers,” says Lauren Morrey, Project Manager for the event. “The industry’s buyers are ultimately responsible for meeting consumer demands; I look forward to delivering them an impressive variety of global products to choose from at International Food & Drink Expo India 2009.”

It seems the industry is in agreement, with a number of high-profile international trade associations already showing an interest in organising group participations from their respective countries. According to the organisers, International Food & Drink Expo India 2009 is positioned to become the industry’s must-attend event of the year. The exhibition aims at providing attendees with features and attractions that highlight the diverse range of products on show, as well as encouraging interactive education and networking opportunities.

Tarsus Group, the owner of Label Expo, announced the launch just after the cancellation of IFE India 2009, which had initially been planned for the same timeframe. IFE India has been a major food and wine tradefair since 2003, owned by London-based Montgomery International, who partnered with InterAds Exhibitions from Gurgaon who acted as the local organisers. The break-up of this joint-venture was announced earlier this year, and obviously Tarsus didn’t need much time to decide and fill the gap.

The Tarsus Group has been active in India since 2003, when it teamed up with Mumbai-based Label Expositions, which had started the India Label Show in 2002. In 2007, the company sold its remaining shares to Tarsus, who thus became the owner of the biennial India Label Show. The Group has also held two successful Label Summits in India, 2006 in Mumbai and 2007 in New Delhi.
