Scanvik Packaging used the 13th ElitePlus Speciality Films & Flexible Packaging Global Summit & Exhibition 2026 to showcase technologies and equipment aimed at improving automation, sustainability and productivity across India’s flexible packaging industry, according to the company’s representative KV Hebbar.

Hebbar said the company’s participation focused primarily on engaging with customers and updating them on new technologies and innovations rather than simply securing orders.

Scanvik represents specialist equipment manufacturers covering different segments of the packaging production process. These include Bieffebi for plate-mounting equipment, FlexoWash for cleaning systems, Guris of Turkey for paper and plastic bag-making machines, Feldman for perforation and rewinding equipment, and Bimec for slitter rewinders.

Bieffebi introduced a new generation of automatic plate mounters equipped with inspection systems for checking sleeves and anilox rolls. Scanvik is promoting these for adding value to the printing process through greater automation and quality control,” Hebbar said.

Sustainability and efficient cleaning are another focus area. Scanvik promotes FlexoWash’s parts-washing systems, which is more efficient than manual washing. Hebbar said the growing use of in-house solvent distillation systems is enabling companies to recover and reuse solvents, reducing wastage.

The company installed a FlexoWash parts washer in Ahmedabad. Hebbar said converters are recognising the limitations of manual labour for cleaning, particularly when consistency and efficiency are important.

FlexoWash’s dedicated cylinder-cleaning equipment can clean more than 250 cylinders a day using reusable, eco-friendly cleaning liquids instead of conventional solvents. Hebbar said the demand for such systems is increasing as focus on sustainability increases.

Scanvik expanded its portfolio with Guris paper bag-making machines. The Turkish company produces equipment for paper bags as well as plastic bags, including applications such as diaper bags. Hebbar said the growing demand for paper packaging has increased interest in its paper bag-making technology.

Scanvik also represents Feldman, which specializes in perforation and rewinding equipment. Hebbar said the company provides customized downstream solutions that can add value to finished products after printing.

Then there is Bimec for slitter rewinders. The company recently supplied a high-end Bimec slitter rewinder to TCPL, which was installed about a month before the interview. Hebbar said Bimec is introducing high-speed, next-generation slitter rewinders for global markets. The same technology is being offered to Indian converters.

Although advanced equipment means higher initial investment, Hebbar said customers need to evaluate machinery based on the eventual benefits. Companies seeking greater productivity and operational benefits need to invest in technology. Those focused on reducing costs may continue with existing systems.

Hebbar said flexible packaging outlook looks promising. He said the industry had become increasingly receptive to innovation as environmental concerns and government efforts to address pollution gain greater attention.

The industry’s growth is driving capital expenditure, with converters investing in new presses and ancillary equipment. Hebbar said demand for automation grows as companies seek to reduce their reliance on manual processes and improve consistency.

The mindset of Indian converters and printers is changing, with greater emphasis on automated systems that can save time and deliver more consistent results.

According to Hebbar, labour is no longer a cheap or reliable long-term solution for companies seeking to expand. Automation, he said, is essential for packaging businesses looking to improve productivity and support sustainable growth.
