The Indian Flexible Packaging and Folding Carton Association (IFCA) held the IFCA Star Awards 2017 on 22 December at Hotel Orchid in Mumbai. IFCA has been addressing the needs of flexible packaging and folding cartons industry for the last five decades. The IFCA Star Award 2017 was well attended by all the leading names in the flexible packaging and folding carton industries.

The IFCA Star Awards provides platform for encouragement that is needed for creativity and continuous improvement in the flexible packaging and folding carton industries. All the major manufacturers of flexible packaging and folding carton materials and end users participate and showcase their innovations at the IFCA Star Awards. Awards are given in four categories: carton/pouch- newer forms/innovations and creativity/new applications, structural and graphic designs, enviro products and product development/pack enhancement.

A panel of four independent experts from the industry helped IFCA examine all the submissions and identify the winners.

Chief guest for the awards was Quraish Baldiwal, director and head-supply chain at Abbot India. Also present at the function was IFCA president Suresh Gupta, chairman of Huhtamaki-PPL along with IFCA executive members Ramesh Kejriwal of Parksons Packaging, RR Maheshwari of Orient Press, RY Kamat of Huber Group, Chandrasekhar, treasurer of IFCA and Vilas Dighe, general manager, IFCA.

A total of 59 awards were given in various sub-categories during the function. ITC Printing and Packaging Business was the clear winner of the evening which took home a whopping 19 awards. Other major winners were Huhtamaki PPL which won eight awards, Uflex won five awards, Umax Packaging won four awards and Orient Press took home three awards.

Other winners were Parksons Packaging, TCPL, Paharpur 3P, Cosmo Films, Brilliant Polymers, Cipla, Sweet Industries, Essel Packaging, Himalaya Drug Company, Multiflex Poly Bags, Yogeshwar Plaspax, Scholle IPN India Packaging, SIES School of Packaging, Safe Pack Industries, Packaging India (part of Amcor group) and Mandagini Agencies.
