Weiss Automation Solutions India, the Indian subsidiary of German automation major Weiss Gmbh, inaugurated a new campus on 12 March in Pune for automation solution business in the Asia Pacific region. The new campus in Chakan, near Pune will house under one roof, Weiss Asia Pacific regional HQ, India sales office, the engineering knowledge centre, Weiss solution factory, global sourcing and global technical development centre.

The new campus was inaugurated by Juergen Morhard, consul general of Germany, Mumbai in presence of Sanjeebit Choudhury, CEO – India & vice president – Asia Pacific, Weiss Gmbh and Rajesh Nath, managing director – VDMA India and other industry leaders, key customers and business partners.

“As a part of the growth plan and strategy for Asia Pacific and India Market, Weiss Group has been beefing up its operations and resources in the region. The first step in that direction, we are adding customer-facing and technical resources, competence and infrastructure. The new campus in Chakan Industrial Area in Pune is a big step in this direction” said Uwe Weiss, Group CEO, Weiss GmbH vis video conferencing. The Weiss Gmbh management could not come to India due the travel restriction imposed as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Weiss said he expects India to a very important market for Weiss Gmbh over the next decade as India will become a centre for automation in the digitalized world.

“I am confident that Weiss India team will be able to create a winning community within India. Weiss Gmbh wants to be part of the Indian growth story and become a respected player in the market,” he said. The company has invested over INR 30 million in infrastructure for setting up this new campus in Chakan and an additional INR 50 million in putting up the engineering knowledge centre equipped with the latest state of the art live demo units for customer training and engineering consultancy services.

Weiss Gmbh, based in Buchen, Germany, is a manufacturer of the cam, servo, and linear motor-driven automation products and components. It serves segments such as automation, electronics, packaging OEMS, material handling, pharmaceutical, FMCG and food and beverage.

Talking more about the potential in the Indian packaging industry, Choudhury said that the company will initially focus on understanding the need of the customers.

“We have highly customized solutions based on customer needs. We cannot supply the same solutions to Indian customers that we supply to the German market. A large proportion of India packaging machine manufacturers and end user are small and medium companies. Our aim initially will be to create awareness about our technology. We see a huge potential in India packaging industry but there is long way to go,” Choudhury said.
