At PMEC 2025 in Greater Noida this November, the Barcelona-headquartered Mespack promoted its range of packaging products for the pharma sector, including its vertical MSPH series, vertical ML series, horizontal H series, horizontal ultra-high speed series, and A1 side-load case packer machines.
Mespack belongs to Duravant, a global engineered equipment company with manufacturing, sales, and service facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia. Duravant looks at India as one of its valuable and emerging markets. It has four verticals in India – protein, food sorting and handling, packaging, and material handling.
Duravant also has Wulftec and Pattyn under its packaging portfolio. In material handling, it provides solutions for warehousing, fulfillment centers, and airports.
Mespack’s presence in India
Mespack has been present in India for the last two decades. Initially exploring the market through distribution agents, the company formally entered India in 2011-12 and has had a consistent presence since then. It has had more than 500 installations since 2011 and enjoys a strong foothold in the FMCG, food and pharma segments.
According to Anthony Dsouza, managing director of Mespack India, Mespack machines are known for their accuracy and versatility. “Our installations have been increasing, and we have been capitalizing on that. In India, we have a full-fledged operation of Mespack equipment and machines with a strong service network and local manufacturing of spare parts. When customers require accuracy, high efficiency, high productivity, good quality and reliability in machines, they always come to us. Our installation base in India is evolving and improving,” he said.
Though Mespack’s equipment is largely imported from Spain, the company has a spare parts manufacturing facility at Makarpura in Gujarat’s Vadodara, which has been operational for a decade. It has been strengthening its base in turnkey solutions for end-of-line products such as case detectors, case packers, and palletizers, Dsouza told Packaging South Asia.
Dsouza said the company’s units are scattered across India, with a large concentration in industrial hubs such as Haridwar, Baddi and Kundli in the North, Pune and Nashik in the West, Chennai and Bangalore in the South and Sikkim and Guwahati in the East. In the FMCG segment, Unilever is one of Mespack’s big customers.
In pharma, they have combination products for powders and granules, pellets and powders, Dsouza said, adding Mespack is the only company in India with high accuracy for pellets. The company’s machines can produce 10mg of pellets with 2 to 5% accuracy, he added.
In the pellets and powders segment, companies struggle to provide 40, 60, or 100 sachets. “We are the only company to have reached up to 300 a minute. That’s the fastest machine for pellet and powder combination. These innovations have put us much ahead in the league,” he said.
Dsouza said they exhibited high-speed applications that can be used in all industries, and are not limited to pharma. “These machines can produce 1,000 to 5,000 pouches a minute.”
Mespack has had collaborations with partners such as Bobst, Amcor, and Dow. “We believe in technology, and how the technology can reach people – one way is to work together. For example, Amcor is good at packaging material, while we are good at machines. When there is a marriage between the two, the product will be the best. Similarly, Bobst in cartoning or in the corrugated setting.”
On the CPHI-PMEC show, he said, “I don’t consider it as a show to sell; it’s a show to network. Customers feel your presence; come and meet with their list of requirements. It’s a good platform.”
