Toyochem Specialty Chemical’s successful deinkability certification aligns with the artience Group’s long-term sustainability vision, the artience Sustainability Vision 2050/2030, and the Group’s ongoing efforts to make all of its products and materials low impact or circular-economy ready by 2050.

Toyochem Specialty Chemical, a member of Japan’s artience Group, has announced that its mineral-oil-free (MOF) sheetfed offset ink, the TK MarkV MOF series, successfully passed the stringent deinkability criteria set by the International Association of the Deinking Industry (INGEDE)

Print samples using these MOF inks on coated glossy art paper were tested according to INGEDE Method 11 under the “magazine coated” category. The TK Mark V MOF ink series, a part in artience’s Toyo King product family, received the highest rating, “Good,” with very high scoring across all major parameters, demonstrating exceptional luminosity, strong color removal, extremely low dirt speck areas, and stable brightness difference. The strong results confirm that printed paper using TK Mark V MOF inks can be efficiently recycled without compromising paper quality.

Deinkability plays a critical role in removing ink and other non-fibrous contaminants from recycled paper to create a clean, high quality pulp. The recovered pulp can then be used to produce new paper products of a similar high-grade as those made from virgin fibers. Thus it’s important to select printing inks known for their good deinkability in order to avoid contaminating paper recycling batches. As global packaging regulations—including the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation—increasingly emphasize recyclability and reduced environmental impact, deinkability has become a critical benchmark.

“We are proud that the TK Mark V MOF series has achieved such high marks in the INGEDE Method 11 test,” said Haruhiko Akutsu, chairman of Toyochem Specialty Chemical. “These indicators confirm the ink series’ capability to support clean fiber recovery during the recycling process. They also underscore the artience Group’s commitment to developing products that enable circular material flows and support brands and converters in meeting ever-increasing environmental and regulatory expectations.”
