Atlas Engineering, a manufacturer of industrial knives, machinery blades, and rolls for metal, tube, wood, pulp, and paper industries, is taking an interest in the Indian corrugated industry. Karan Beri, director of the company, who was present at the IndiaCorr Expo in Greater Noida this September, told Packaging South Asia that at present, knives for the corrugated industry are being imported from China as there is no domestic supply. Atlas Engineering aims to fill that gap with its products.
Established in 1950, the company, with a corporate office in Okhla and manufacturing units in Noida and Faridabad, is led by a team of experts to produce the best quality knives for the most critical size reduction applications. “All products are designed and created to meet the customized requirements of our clients. We take pride in our unique ability to deliver high-precision cutting and forming tools made of European steel at affordable prices,” Beri said.
Five years ago, the company didn’t have any presence in the corrugated industry. “We discovered that importing blades is time-consuming and affects production. Backed by our R&D, we found out that each machine requires a different kind of knife. In all customized knives, we change the composition of the steel, making it fit better in the corrugated landscape,” he said.
Atlas Engineering’s strength is in the wide range of tools with straight knives upto 4,500 mm in length and circular knives and rolls upto 1,000 mm in diameter. It carries a large stock of special steels and can provide for large requirements with short and reliable delivery time.
Its expertise lies in identifying the right materials for the applications. Its experience in metallurgy and heat treatment allows customers to extract maximum life from the steels.
According to him, corrugated packaging is picking up worldwide as the use of plastic for primary packaging is going down due to environmental concerns. “We can see around 30-40% y-o-y growth in this segment for our company. In the last two years, we have made and supplied several knives for corrugated packaging machines. All current and future plans centered round growing in this segment and expanding our customer base,” he concluded.
