Valco Melton drew significant attention at the PackMach Asia Expo, held from 13 to 15 November in Mumbai, with the launch of Poucheck, a new real-time heat-seal imaging technology designed to address long-standing quality challenges in India’s flexible packaging sector.
Speaking at the event, Ravi Kiran, director of Valco Melton India, described the system as a breakthrough that allows converters and brand owners to detect, analyse, and prevent heat-seal defects before products reach the market.
Kiran explained that Poucheck provides a continuous thermal image of the sealing process, enabling manufacturers to assess pouch integrity with far greater accuracy than traditional inspection systems. The technology captures the exact temperature at every sealing point, enabling operators to identify inconsistencies, adjust machine settings, and prevent leaks, weak seals, or overheated zones that may compromise product safety. For an industry where a large share of packaging remains flexible, this level of precision is particularly significant.
He noted that the technology comes at a time when converters are working with an expanding mix of materials, including recycled substrates, which often introduce new sealing challenges. Over-melting and bonding issues can lead to plastic residue entering products, particularly in categories like confectionery. By providing precise thermal data, Poucheck ensures seals are neither under-processed nor overheated, reducing the risk of defects and material contamination.
Kiran said, “Poucheck is not just an inspection tool but a process-improvement system. Beyond real-time monitoring, it generates detailed reports that allow users to trace issues back to specific zones, time periods, or production runs. All historical data is recorded, enabling operators to review performance months later and identify recurring patterns. This makes it particularly valuable for converters supplying high-volume brands and for OEMs integrating Valco Melton systems into form-fill-seal equipment.”
He said the response from the industry had been highly encouraging, with strong interest from major brands, OEMs, and converters. Meetings with companies such as Unilever underscored the sector’s focus on reducing sealing errors and ensuring food safety in mass-market products. Conversations with original equipment manufacturers also reinforced the growing demand for higher precision and data-led quality control in end-of-line packaging operations.
Kiran said PackMach Asia remains an important platform for Valco Melton. Having participated since the show’s inception, he believes its focus on end-of-line packaging gives it an edge over broader trade exhibitions. All participants are directly connected to Valco Melton’s ecosystem, making it a great opportunity to meet existing and potential customers in one place. He attributed the event’s strong footfall—and the heightened interest in Poucheck—to the extensive series of roadshows held across cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Ahmedabad in the months leading up to the expo.
With Poucheck now officially launched, Valco Melton aims to accelerate adoption among converters and brand owners looking for more reliable sealing performance. As Kiran noted, improving seal integrity is no longer just about quality control but also about strengthening trust in the flexible packaging that dominates India’s FMCG landscape.
