The container manufactured by PI Industries has two tamper-evident features

Ten Indian companies, including multinational ITC, are among the 214 winners of the WorldStar 2024, the global packaging competition organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO). This edition attracted 435 entries from 41 countries. The top five winners, by country, are Japan (28), Germany (21), Australia and New Zealand (16), the US (12), and Brazil and Austria (11 each). India had 10 winners.

The award ceremony will take place in Thailand, on 15 June, during ProPak Asia. On the same occasion, WPO will announce the winners for the special categories — President’s Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award and Packaging that Saves Food Award.

Each year, WPO recognizes the best in packaging innovations from across the globe. Its objective in organizing the awards is to increase awareness of the importance of packaging in having a better life and to recognize the innovation and efforts of brand owners, designers, students, and branding agencies for creating packaging solutions of the future and also responding to new challenges and global trends such as sustainability and hygiene.

ITC bagged three spots in the alcoholic beverages and food categories. For Pernod Ricard India, ITC developed the sustainable new Chivas18 Limited Edition Pack, whose lid is reproduced through renewable raw materials, replacing the conventional molded plastic. In food, ITC’s Independence Day Pack is a plastic-free dal pack for Maharani Dall Mill Private Limited, which has been packaged using high-strength paper and biodegradable sealant technology, along with a Microwavable POP BOX, to enjoy hot & fresh popcorn straight from the box.

Huhtamaki India’s transparent barrier snack packs address the visibility challenges of the highly competitive and cluttered segment of snacks. Toppan Speciality Films India has been awarded in the Packaging Materials and Components category for its next-generation coated BOPP label for high-speed UV flexo printing machines. Apart from these, the other Indian awardees are Jyothi Labs, Safepack Industries, Mullackal Polymers, and Zydus Life Sciences.

The new Chivas18 Limited-Edition Pack is built on the theme of sustainability, with a touch of flora & fauna of the coastal region. The lid is reproduced through renewable raw material, replacing the conventional molded plastic. The container has two tamper-evident features that provide the end user with readily observable indications to distinguish between when the container has previously been opened for normal use and when the container has been potentially exposed to any tampering. The product comprises a first frangible strip that needs to be torn and pulled out of the cap to rotate and open up as a first tamper-evident feature. The pulling out of the strip reveals a second strip having a red-colored window — indicating that the cap has been opened.
