In our recent interaction with the top leadership of Xsys Global, we met CEO Alexander Unterschuetz, chief Commercial officer Timo Schwickart, VP Asia Pacific Roy Schoettle, and the company’s GM for South Asia, Prasenjit Das, in New Delhi. The visit of this high-powered team and its interactions with the country’s leading packaging companies and prepress tradeshops is clearly an indication of the desire to know and understand the markets first-hand.

Apart from listening to customers, it is clear that the Xsys management team at all levels wants to personally explore the potential of what it sees as a growing market. In addition, the visit reveals and conveys commitment to leading packaging players who welcome quality solutions from a structured provider of flexo imaging and consumable solutions.

Alexander Unterschuetz began our conversation by stating that Xsys sees India as a key growth market, especially for the combined team and products of Xsys and Macdermid Graphics, which it acquired in September 2024. The acquisition also brought in Prasenjit Das, who is universally known to the Indian packaging and flexo prepress industry and earlier ran the Macdermid sales operation not only in India but was also the senior sales development manager for South Asia.

Unterschuetz recognized the competitiveness of the growing market and said that Xsys can set up or contribute to a system based on value. “We want to set up the value ecosystem in flexo prepress that reveals itself in the course of flexo production. Where our plates deliver consistent quality with less filling in, and hence, fewer stoppages on press. In addition, we want to present our entire and comprehensive prepress solutions that include digital imagers and processing equipment, the software and screening technologies, and our flexo plates and consumables.”

The Xsys CEO explained the combined strengths coming from the acquisition of MacDermid, which now span a very wide range of digitally imaged flexo plates. Amongst the best known in India are the thinner and more versatile ITP60 plates, that can use Bellissima screening, as well as the formidable Xsys FTV range of plates that are especially strong in applications such as corrugation.

He emphasized that the company is keen to perform as a value driver in the flexo sector, noting differentiators such as the Xsys eco plates containing recycled material and its thermal processing products. In answer to our query about prepress software for packaging, Timo Schwickart understood our perspective, noting that “It has to be acknowledged that the software industry as a whole is changing.” Prasenjit Das explained that Xsys was entirely compatible with all the packaging software solutions in the field, adding, “Xsys is the most open company in terms of packaging prepress software.”

We asked the company’s VP for Asia Pacific, Roy Schoettle, about its immediate expansion plans for India, to which he replied that with its two warehouses in the country and its seven employees, including four  engineers, there are no current plans to add personnel. Commenting on our query about the current supply issues emanating from the disruptions in logistics, Das reassured his customers and us by saying that the current inventory of Xsys plates in the two Indian warehouses is extensive and comfortable.

Note, our meeting with Xsys took place on 23 March 2026.
