An integrated sustainability work and an ambition to constantly meet customers’ sustainability requirements are reasons why BillerudKorsnäs maintains its leading position for the third year in a row, according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index – a globally recognized sustainability ranking for investors. The results from this year’s ranking show that BillerudKorsnäs is one of the ten percent most sustainable companies and the company with the highest score in the Containers & Packaging category.

S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) is a comprehensive annual evaluation of companies’ sustainability practices and performance with a coverage of over 7,300 companies representing approximately 95 percent of market capitalization. The top ten percent are included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

We are very happy to keep our position as the industry leader. This is a result of many years of integrated sustainability work, covering everything from human rights to climate strategy. In recent years, we have noticed an increased interest from investors and customers regarding our sustainability work and our ability to replace fossil-based packaging materials. Assessments such as Dow Jones Sustainability Index are valuable to show that we have come quite far,” says Malin Ljung Eiborn, Sustainability director at BillerudKorsnäs.

The evaluation is based on an analysis of corporate governance, environmental, and social work. Out of 22 categories, BillerudKorsnäs has received the highest score in the industry within 11 categories, such as occupational health & safety, supply chain management, and talent attraction & retention.

We have improved our total score compared to last year, which is a result of focused work, especially on customer relationship management and product stewardship. However, we need to continuously improve our performance to stay on top. Both the assessment model and our peers are constantly evolving. In our strategy towards 2024, we put emphasis on putting safety first and reducing our fossil emissions. This assessment confirms that this is the right focus for us as a company,” says Malin Ljung Eiborn.

BillerudKorsnäs is one of seven Swedish companies that are included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. A total of 61 different industries are included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

The impact, resilience, and growth of responsible packaging in a wide region are daily chronicled by Packaging South Asia.

A multi-channel B2B publication and digital platform such as Packaging South Asia is always aware of the prospect of new beginnings and renewal. Its 16-year-old print monthly, based in New Delhi, India has demonstrated its commitment to progress and growth. The Indian and Asian packaging industries have shown resilience in the face of ongoing challenges over the past three years.

As we present our publishing plan for 2023, India’s real GDP growth for the financial year ending 31 March 2023 will reach 6.3%. Packaging industry growth has exceeded GDP growth even when allowing for inflation in the past three years.

The capacity for flexible film manufacturing in India increased by 33% over the past three years. With orders in place, we expect another 33% capacity addition from 2023 to 2025. Capacities in monocartons, corrugation, aseptic liquid packaging, and labels have grown similarly. The numbers are positive for most of the economies in the region – our platform increasingly reaches and influences these.

Even given the disruptions of supply chains, raw material prices, and the challenge of responsible and sustainable packaging, packaging in all its creative forms and purposes has significant headroom to grow in India and Asia. Our context and coverage engulf the entire packaging supply chain – from concept to shelf and further – to waste collection and recycling. We target brand owners, product managers, raw material suppliers, packaging designers and converters, and recyclers.

In an admittedly fragmented and textured terrain, this is the right time to plan your participation and marketing support communication – in our impactful and highly targeted business platform.
