ICMA will present its 'Rinascimento' circular economy service during the Milan fair in Milan (21 -23 May, Allianz MiCo

ICMA Sartorial Paper, together with Cartotecnica Moderna, has won Packaging Première’s Avant-Garde 2024 Award in the Sustainability category for its Rinascimento project, ‘a virtuous and innovative example of a circular economy in the luxury packaging landscape, which transforms scraps generated in the production phase into exquisite 100% recycled creative paper’, as outlined in the award description.

The two companies and partners for many years decided to work together to bring the project to life, through phases coordinated by ICMA. Scraps produced by Cartotecnica Moderna during its manufacturing process are salvaged to create 100% recycled paper, which is then finished according to the requests of Moderna and used to create coated boxes and shopping bags, which are in turn recyclable. The production chain is carried out entirely in Italy and the manufactured paper is unique both in terms of its aesthetic and (measurable) environmental impact.

ICMA will present its ‘Rinascimento’ circular economy service during the Milan fair in Milan (21 -23 May, Allianz MiCo – Gate 4 – Pavilion 3, Booth C32-C34) and invites interested customers to meet up to understand together how to apply the service to their individual companies.

Marco Nigrelli, General Manager of ICMA, and Roberto Rossi, CEO of Cartotecnica Moderna, will highlight the unique characteristics of this service during a scheduled presentation at Packaging Première on the 23rd of May at 11 am in the exhibition spaces.

“ICMA coordinates the whole process, from the collection of waste to the production and finishing of recycled paper for the same customer,” explains Nigrelli.

“The waste paper is not de-inked or bleached, precisely to ensure the operation is consistent in terms of sustainability. Another interesting aspect is that we can provide the customer with an environmental impact assessment for the paper produced. Today, all outgoing paper from ICMA is traced in accordance with the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method, “from cradle to gate,” that is, from the tree (or from the waste for recycled papers), to the point of exit through ICMA’s gates. For each paper, including those manufactured through the Rinascimento service, we can measure the CO2-equivalent emissions and, with our customers, set up action plans for their reduction, meeting the requirements of all brands concerned with their environmental impact.”

All the 100% recycled papers in the Prêt-à-Porter collection will be on display at ICMA’s Packaging Première booth, demonstrating the results of a journey undertaken by the company, which is gradually introducing more and more items in 100% recycled versions.
