Banyan Nation – a case study for startups in plastic waste...
When two Indian professionals from Silicon Valley in California, United States, decided to return home to set up an enterprise of their own, it was not the usual tech firm offering solutions to megabuck B2B enterprises that they had in mind. Instead, they launched Banyan Nation in 2013, an organization dedicated to recycling plastic waste and churning out top grade and more durable plastic pallets. Selling top grade recycled plastic pallets wasn’t their only objective; rather, setting up a sustainable waste plastic recycling system was what they wanted to do and they succeeded in doing so with a lot of value for the Indian plastic recycling industry.

Digital, packaging, automation and sustainability at drupa
Laurel Brunner writes, “Drupa 2016’s attendance and sales numbers show that print is in rude health.” (Just so this British idiom is not misunderstood – if someone’s in rude health, they are very healthy and look it.) Brunner writes this in the context of sustainability but I am quoting her so that our readers can benefit from the considered opinion of a savvy industry expert.
Measuring and testing becomes more reachable
Our visit to the IGT Testing Systems stand at drupa 2016 revealed that there is much about this organization that we were not aware of. Since the stand was large, there were far more testing and measuring instruments at drupa than we have seen at any earlier exhibition. In the past some potential customers in India have said to us that the IGT class of instruments while desirable to have are quite expensive for a small or medium sized plant.
