A blaze gutted two packaging companies in Daman’s Dabhel industrial area on Sunday evening, according to multiple media reports. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, triggered a large-scale firefighting operation that lasted for several hours.
Eyewitnesses told the local media that thick black smoke billowed into the sky as flames rapidly consumed the adjoining facilities. Seven fire tenders were deployed to the scene, with firefighters battling intense heat and exploding containers to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby units.
Fire officer Rajesh B. Marge, quoted in multiple reports, described the situation as severe upon arrival. “When we reached here, we found it to be major. The entire industry was ablaze,” he said, adding that while a few nearby companies were saved, one unit was completely gutted.
Authorities confirmed to media outlets that no casualties have been reported so far. Cooling operations are underway, and the area has been cordoned off as officials assess the extent of the damage. Power supply to the affected zone has been temporarily cut as a safety measure.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the blaze and assess potential environmental risks from the incident, which has again raised concerns about industrial safety standards in the region.
Industrial fires are not uncommon. Earlier in May 2025, a massive blaze devastated Jindal Poly Films’ Nashik Plant. A year before that, a fire broke out at the Bhiwadi manufacturing facility of packaging and printing inks and coatings provider Siegwerk India on 10 April 2024.
