Four leading carton manufacturers – Tetra Pak, Elopak, SIG Combibloc and Evergreen Packaging – have formed an alliance to boost the recycling of cartons in the US. The primary aim of this alliance is to improve the carton recycling infrastructure in the country.
The Carton Council plans to set up partnerships with local communities and stakeholders to both improve local collection programmes for used cartons as well as promote recycling technology. This is expected to increase their products’ end-of-life options and demonstrate their commitment to making the industry more sustainable.
The Council’s first alliances is with Waste Management, a leading provider of of waste and environmental services, and Pepsico’s Tropicana brand to ensure that cartons are included in all their recycling programmes. The Council believes that consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of recyclability of packaging and all companies participating in this effort will stand to benefit.
