The Mumbai-based TCPL Packaging, a board, flexible, luxury packaging, and paper cup multi-locational company, has set up a new wholly owned subsidiary called Accura Technik for the launch of its cylinder engraving and manufacturing business. In a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange on 6 May 2025, the listed company stated that the new cylinder engraving plant will be based in Silvassa.
The premises of the new subsidiary for gravure cylinder making are in close proximity to its multiple gravure and board printing plants in the industrial city north of Mumbai.
TCPL has a nationwide presence with nine manufacturing facilities and marketing offices in key metropolitan cities. We recently spoke with managing director Saket Kanoria, who confirmed that this backward integration will offer an installed capacity of approximately 12,000 cylinders per annum, ensuring the timely availability of world-class gravure cylinders and driving improvements in overall production efficiency.
Kanoria said that TCPL is intent on improving process control, enhancing print quality, and accelerating times for its growing customer base. He added that the Accura Technik subsidiary plans to supply high-quality engraved printing cylinders to other flexible packaging converters, of which there are several in the vicinity of the new project.
With a significant capital outlay in the new cylinder-making plant, TCPL has ordered the latest cylinder preparation and engraving equipment from the leading European manufacturers. Two Hell engravers have been ordered, including the latest electromechanical and direct laser engraving technologies, enabling superior precision, high-definition reproduction, and consistent color fidelity across a wide range of substrates.
This dual technology setup will particularly benefit customers in quality-sensitive and design-focused categories. In addition, the latest Hell technology provides a common front-end for both engravers that allows the CYMK half-tone work on a cylinder to be executed on the electronic engraver and then for it to be moved to the laser engraver for small text and fine line work. This could bring great efficiency in the use of both engravers for very high-quality work.
Expected to be commissioned by Q3 FY2026, the cylinders produced by the new plant will adhere to the highest global standards, further enhancing TCPL’s ability to deliver differentiated solutions in both domestic and international markets. Kanoria said that the plant is designed for expansion with additional engravers over time, is expected to grow and evolve into an independent profit centre, not only for in-house consumption but for servicing the broader industry with high-quality cylinders and generating an additional revenue stream for the company.
As Kanoria stated earlier this year, “This investment enhances our integrated capabilities and marks a forward-looking step towards greater control, agility, and consistency in our operations. It also reflects our long-term commitment to sustainable growth and delivering enhanced value to our customers.”
