In this collaboration, Avery Dennison will provide Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSCTM)-certified materials to Rotolabel who will convert them into labels customized to Woolworths’ requirements. The certification provides consumers the assurance that the paper material used is made from wood from responsible sources.
“This collaboration is the first of its kind in South Africa,” said Mark Ellis, commercial director for Avery Dennison Label and Graphic Materials in Sub-Saharan Africa. “It demonstrates that sustainability can be integrated into almost every level of the label value chain – from procuring materials, manufacturing to retail.”
“Sourcing sustainable commodities is a key part of the Woolworths Good Business Journey 2020 goals,” said Tom McLaughlin, Responsible Sourcing, Woolworths Foods. “We are delighted to know that our supply chain partners, Rotolabel and Avery Dennison, are on the same sustainability journey and that the trees used to make the paper used in our self-adhesive labels are now grown sustainably and comply with FSC – the world’s most rigorous standard for responsible forest management. Our customers can now be assured that they are supporting products that have not been made at the expense of the animals, the plants, or people that inhabit those forests.”
“We are thrilled to be among the first movers to help drive change and create a sustainable future for everyone,” said Grant Watson, national sales, Rotolabel. “We look forward to future opportunities to help brands across South Africa make a difference with responsibly sourced labeling solutions.”
As part of the collaboration, Avery Dennison will provide Rotolabel various price-neutral FSCTM-certified facestocks, adhesives and liners to be converted into labeling solutions for Woolworths Foods brand of quality products. Avery Dennison has more than 170 FSCTM-certified products. FSCTM is considered the most rigorous, credible forest certification system available, promoting environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forest. Its chain-of-custody (COC) certification process traces the path of products from forests through the supply chain, verifying the FSCTM-certified material is identified or separated from non-certified material throughout.
