Steinemann is expanding its portfolio of UV varnishing machines in time fordrupa 2016. The company’s products now also include machines designed to cover a wide range of different demands on full-flood UV varnishing and spot varnishing in both commercial and packaging printing. The company introduced the dmax 106 digital UV varnishing machine in 2014. The dmax 106 is designed for B1 formats and offers divar inkjet technology.

Steinemann will be presenting the dmax 76, a narrower version for spot varnishing on paper and board sheets in sizes of up to 760 x 760 mm at Hall 3 Stand D32. The dmax family is rounded off by an entry-level model, the dmax 76c, likewise for the same sheet format. As a partner of Heidelberg, Steinemann will be giving live demonstrations on a dmax 106 in Hall 1 at drupa. “Steinemann has been leading technical development in the market ever since the company built the prototype of a machine for UV varnishing record sleeves andthe like in 1974. Our new dmax family is the latest pinnacle in these more than 40 years of practical experience. With their good price-to-performance ratio and excellent varnish application, the two new dmax models for smaller sheet formats are decidedly attractive alternatives to other solutions available on the market,” says Ludwig Allgoewer, head of digital varnishing at Steinemann Technology in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

All three dmax systems offer a resolution of 600 dpi and achieve an output of up to10,000 sheets an hour; permit varnish application rates of 4 to 50 g/m², or optionally even up to 100 g/m², while at the same time offering high varnishing quality. The dmax 106, the top-of-the-range model for sheet formats up to 1,080 x 780 mm, and the new dmax 76 for narrower sheet formats can be expanded into multifunctional finishing systems by adding numerous options covering very different demands on UV varnishing – including a module for printing barcodes, for example. The dmax 76c was designed as a highly efficient system for users wanting to step into the world of digital UV varnishing.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.
