Konica Minolta India, a leader in industrial printing solutions, participated in Cosmoprof India 2024 for the first time, marking a significant step into non-traditional exhibitions to expand its reach in emerging markets. Vijay Kamat, who represented the company, shared insights on the brand’s focus and strategy during an interview at the event.

The company showcased its capabilities in industrial printing, focusing on three primary verticals — label printing, MGI, and KM1 UV inkjet solutions. Konica Minolta’s decision to participate in Cosmoprof India stems from the growing demand for short-run printing, especially in industries such as cosmetics and food. The company booth displayed samples printed by Konica Minolta customers.

“Short-run printing is gaining traction among brands, particularly in the cosmetics industry, where start-ups and premium products often require unique and smaller batch packaging,” Kamat explained. The event offered Konica Minolta an opportunity to connect its customers—printing service providers—with leading Indian brands as well as startups looking for specialized printing solutions, such as digital embellishments, customized labels, and short-run packaging.

Building connections and driving innovation

Kamat highlighted the importance of showcasing samples created using Konica Minolta machines to attract brands and foster partnerships. “We’re acting as a bridge between brands and our customers, enabling collaboration that supports innovative and sustainable business growth,” he said.

Feedback from the event attendees was overwhelmingly positive. “Unlike other exhibitions, this event drew packaging development experts, CEOs, and decision-makers, all looking for innovative digital printing solutions such as QR codes, loyalty programs, AR/VR features, and short-run packaging,” he added.

The rising role of digital printing

The cosmetics sector in India, particularly dominated by online-first start-ups, has proven to be fertile ground for digital printing solutions. These emerging brands often have niche audiences and premium product ranges, requiring specialized short-run printing. Kamat shared an anecdote about a cosmetics stand selling eyeliners in premium packaging priced as high as Rs 28,000 per box.

Such brands have unique requirements, including high-quality and limited-edition packaging, which aligns perfectly with our digital printing technology,” Kamat said.

Strategic shift beyond traditional exhibitions

Konica Minolta’s participation in Cosmoprof India is part of its broader strategy to move beyond traditional print-focused exhibitions and tap into connected industries. The company has also recently participated in CMPL (Cosmetic Manufacturing and Packaging Expo) in Delhi to strengthen its presence in the packaging sector.

“Printing is a universal requirement, and we are now connecting with industries outside the traditional printing domain to expand our reach,” Kamat said, noting the shift to working with sectors like cosmetics, food, and other online-first businesses.

The company has adopted a comprehensive 360-degree approach, providing cutting-edge printing technology, servicing, and facilitating connections between brands and printing service providers. Kamat stressed that this approach helps Konica Minolta’s customers grow their businesses while meeting the evolving demands of emerging markets.
