At PackMach Asia 2025 in Mumbai, Spanish manufacturer Boix showcased its Q1530 box and tray forming machine, drawing attention from converters and packaging buyers exploring automated options for high-volume carton production.
Speaking to Packaging South Asia at the stand, Amol Terkar of Boix India explained that the system is designed to take pre-die-cut sheets and convert them directly into finished boxes through automated folding and gluing. “This is a box and tray forming machine,” he said. “You feed the die-cut sheet, the machine carries out the folding and gluing, and you get the final output ready for use.”
Terkar noted that the Q1530 is positioned for a broad mix of end-use sectors. “Typically, this technology is used in FMCG, beverages, dairies, and eCommerce,” he said. “And when it is used in tray-forming mode, it becomes suitable for fruits and vegetables as well.” With India seeing rising interest in automation across both consumer goods and agri-packaging, the machine’s applications are expected to widen as supply chains continue to modernize.
The Q1530 is fully manufactured and assembled in Spain, with no local production footprint at present. “This is made in Spain,” Terkar confirmed. “The entire machine comes assembled; nothing is put together in India.” The company’s India operations focus exclusively on sales and service, handled through its office in Pune.
While the technology is well understood in Europe, Terkar acknowledged that India is at an early stage of adoption outside agriculture. “Right now, our presence is mostly in the agriculture sector,” he said. “For the non-agriculture segment, the concept is still new, and the industry is not very aware of this kind of technology. Many people do not yet realize that different box designs can also be formed on such machines.” He added that customer education and demonstration remain essential as companies explore alternatives to manual or semi-automatic carton forming.
Despite the early phase of market development, Boix sees the Indian packaging industry as a long-term growth opportunity as demand for consistent, high-speed, export-ready packaging continues to rise. The company expects interest in automated forming equipment to increase as brand owners and packhouses shift towards standardized, high-precision box formats.
