The MAESTRO closure system
Alcan Packaging Capsules has launched a new closure system called MAESTRO that is targetted at replacement of corks in sparkling wines like champagne. The new invention is an all-metal closure operated by a lever. It offers easy opening and still delivers the symbolic “popping” sound on opening. A major advantage offered is the elimination of cork taint that is found in a small percentage of bottles stoppered with corks.

The MAESTRO closure system, which has taken 3 years of research and development and has seen an investment of 1 million euros in the process, marks a revolutionary and path-breaking new concept in a tradition bound application that represents a potential annual market of 332 million bottles of Champagne alone based on 2008 output figures.

MAESTRO has been used for the first time by the premium vintner Champagne Duval-Lercy for its cuvee Clos des Bouveries Vintage 2004 brand that was launched earlier this month. Champagne Duval-Lercy was the first ISO 9002 certified company in this business and is the last remaining independent family-owned House. It is well-known for its reputation for combining heritage with modernity.

MAESTRO can be “dressed” in various materials like leather, fabrics and other substrates and offers a wide range of decoration options.
