Avery Dennison’s new offering for apparel brings existing software, digital ID technology, physical labels, hardware, consultancy, and technical support services under one banner in time for the European Commission’s Sustainable Products Regulation, according to a press released dated 2 July 2026. The announcement comes as the European Commission’s central DPP registry is expected to go live by 19 July 2026 under Article 13 of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). The textile-specific Delegated Act is expected to be adopted in 2027, with any brand selling clothing in the EU required to be compliant by 18 months following the Act’s publication.

A DPP is a digital identity for a product. It holds key information about a garment’s makeup, origin, and environmental impact. Brands can connect it to the item through a data carrier, such as a QR code, NFC tag, or RFID inlay. For brands, DPPs can also unlock commercial value through resale, re-commerce, anti-counterfeiting, direct consumer engagement, and richer post-purchase relationships. They help shoppers make more informed, sustainable choices and support circularity through repair and recycling.

ReadyDPP provides brands with the data carrier, hosts the digital twin, and offers a cloud platform for a single, seamless ecosystem. The solution aims to seamlessly create and manage DPPs, reducing complexity to give brands and manufacturers the control they need to make informed, confident decisions. Creating a holistic route to DPP readiness builds on Avery Dennison’s proven expertise in managing variable product data, producing durable labels, and active involvement in DPP legislation development.

Editor’s note: Avery Dennison India is also working on RFID tags for garments in its Pune facility. Some of these were shown at the India Warehousing Show at the Yashobhoomi in the Delhi NCR a few weeks ago in June. We believe that efforts are being made to indigenize the production of these RFID inlays in the country.
