Markem-Imaje India showcased its coding, marking, inspection and traceability solutions at Anuga FoodTec 2026 in Mumbai, focusing on production efficiency, regulatory compliance and centralized control of coding operations across manufacturing lines.
Ankit Mathur, solutions consultant at Markem-Imaje India, said the company’s software portfolio helps manufacturers improve production performance by reducing coding errors, minimizing waste, increasing line uptime and limiting manual intervention.
A key offering is the company’s CoLOS line and data management software, which enables manufacturers to manage coding devices through a centralized platform rather than operating individual printers separately. Mathur said the software had evolved over approximately 18 years and was now in its seventh generation.
The platform supports controlled message creation and approval workflows, helping manufacturers implement changes to product coding requirements consistently across production lines. This is particularly relevant when regulatory or commercial requirements change, as manufacturers need to ensure that products carry accurate and compliant codes before entering the market.
Mathur highlighted the cybersecurity credentials of the software, citing IEC 62443-4-1 & IEC 62443-4-2 certification. The certification addresses cybersecurity requirements for industrial automation and control system components, helping manufacturers assess the suitability of connected coding systems for integration into their IT infrastructure.
Another feature is the integration of vision inspection with coding systems. By combining coding and camera-based verification on one platform, Markem-Imaje aims to simplify system management and provide manufacturers a single platform for both (Coding, Marking & vision inspection) applications and a single point of contact for after-sales support.
The company is also developing solutions for manufacturers operating multiple plants across India and other markets. These systems can support centralized oversight, plant-specific message distribution and role-based approval processes. Mathur said future cloud-based offerings would also be available through a subscription model.
Mathur highlighted the launch of CoLOS 2D Activate and CoLOS 2D Engage, marking a major shift from basic serialization to intelligent, highly secure digital consumer engagement:
“Unlike simple QR code label maker tools, our platform generates fully GS1-compliant codes with dynamic packaging capabilities built directly in. This allows brands to deploy advanced personalization, seamlessly routing customers to different digital product experiences based on GTIN, region, language, and custom parameters.
“By supporting rich page content—including video, images, forms, social feeds, and third-party integrations—we are enabling companies to build adaptive experiences that respond directly to consumer needs. Crucially, the platform integrates robust security features like serialization and tamper-detection on packaging QR codes, providing the secure verification needed to effectively combat counterfeiting and protect brand integrity,” he added.
Jesal Bhandari, account manager – sales at Markem-Imaje India, outlined the company’s range of coding and marking equipment, including continuous inkjet printers, fiber and ultraviolet lasers, thermal transfer overprinters (TTO), thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers and high-resolution printing systems.
The portfolio includes the 9330, 9712 and 9750 series of continuous inkjet printers, alongside the EFLS fiber laser series and ultraviolet laser technology. The company offers TTO systems, including the X40, X45 and X65, as well as TIJ and high-resolution printers such as the 5800+ and 5940 series.
For secondary and tertiary packaging, Markem-Imaje provides print-and-apply labeling systems and direct label applicators. Bhandari said these technologies could be integrated with software and camera systems to support promotional coding, product traceability and end-to-end identification across primary, secondary and tertiary packaging and warehouse operations.
The company’s approach combines coding hardware, software and inspection technologies to help manufacturers improve production control and traceability throughout the packaging supply chain.
