Toyochem Specialty Chemical, a member of Japan’s artience Group, has announced the achievement of HACCP and Codex Alimentarius Commission certification for its food packaging manufacturing processes. According to a company press release, this milestone, alongside the successful renewal of its GMP certification confirmed by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH in August 2026, validates the company’s compliance under Category I: Production of Packaging Material for its comprehensive portfolio of water-based coatings.
Advanced quality management
This dual certification significantly elevates Toyochem Specialty Chemical’s quality framework. While GMP certification validates operational hygiene, the new HACCP certification introduces a process-driven system to proactively eliminate hazards in food-contact packaging coatings.
Together, these certifications reinforce the company’s food safety and quality assurance capabilities. By providing greater peace of mind to brand owners, Toyochem Specialty Chemical strengthens its competitive edge as it expands its footprint and develops new business opportunities in the global food packaging sector.
Certified sustainable barrier solutions
The company’s water-based coatings offer sustainable, functional alternatives to traditional PE lamination and extrusion. The following series are fully covered under these certifications:
l FC Series: Delivers high oil and water resistance for lunch boxes, burger wraps, and paper cups, with select grades supporting heat-sealing.
l VTR Series: Features a reliable water vapor barrier (WVTR) to preserve freshness in applications like paper pouches.
l HSL Series: Acts as a food-compliant primer, enhancing lay-flat properties and minimizing leakage at creases and folds.
For packaging manufacturers and brands, this ensures the company’s water-based coatings are produced under strict control points that eliminate migration and contamination risks. “Achieving HACCP certification directly addresses our customers’ evolving demands for uncompromising material safety,” said Robin Loke, technical director at Toyochem Specialty Chemical. “Every department played a part in this achievement, and our entire team is incredibly proud of this milestone. We will continue to elevate our standards to help customers seamlessly meet their food safety and compliance requirements.”
