Skanem Interlabels installs AVT Helios S
Skanem Interlabels, one of thebiggest label printing firms in India, has invested in AVT Helios S, a top-of-the-line inspection system

Skanem Interlabels, one of the biggest label printing firms in India, has invested in a top-of-the-line inspection system, the AVT Helios S, with the installation happening at the Vasai plant in September last year. This is the second AVT inspection system at the Vasai plant. The Helios S has been integrated with the slitter-rewinder. The inspection system was supplied by Reifenhauser India.

Incorporating the latest vision concept and illumination technologies, Helios Sis recognized as the leading inspection system in the market today. p agroThe system handles even thick embossed metallized substrates as well as highly-reflective holographic foils and laminates. It has a built-in archiving and reporting feature, along with an innovative, built-in PrintFlow module. Helios S was introduced in April 2014 and is next in line to Helios II which is a generation older. In the current market situation, customers are demanding an extremely high level of precision and accuracy. Label printers have to keep upgrading the infrastructure to retain clients. And all this is happening when manufacturing products is becoming increasingly complex.

“Our customers are now demanding nearly 100% defect free products. We were short on inspection capacity and that is the reason why we brought in the latest Helios S inspection system. Now with the old and the new AVT Helios systems in place we have a capacity of 9 to 10 lakh running metres. Moreover, there has been a marked reduction in wastage and subsequently cost,” says Santos Bhatt, manager engineer at Interlabels Vasai plant. Being an old AVT Helios user, Interlabels was sure about the product and therefore went for the latest version. “We were extremely satisfied with the product and that is why we went for the topmost model this time. As per the defined parameters we are achieving all the desired results,”says Bhatt.

In addition to the Vasai plant, Interlabels also has production facilities at Baddi and Kolkata. According to Bhatt, in 2016 further investments have been planned for Vasai as well as the Baddi plant. The plan is to bring in another AVT inspection system at the Vasai plant this year to further increase the inspection capacity of the plant. Another slitter-rewinder and a printing press are also expected to come in this year.
