One of the leading label printers in the country with plants in both North and South India, Zircon Technologies has further strengthened its extensive in-house digital prepress with the addition of a direct laser engraver for screens that are used on label presses. The SPG rotaLEN engraves images, text and linework directly on to RotaMesh and RotaPlate screen materials for the graphic arts reproduction. The direct engraver fits into the existing prepress workflow as an output device in a fully digital process and produces one-step dry
rotary screens at variable resolutions up to 4000 dpi.
Apart from the high quality output and the convenience of having a direct screen engraver in-house, the device is expected to help Zircon further extend the security features that it offers to its label customers. Zircon has lately been on an expansion and investment spree with recent purchases of an Omet X4 10-unit label press installed this August, the order for a highly configured 12-unit Mark Andy Performance Series 7 label press in addition to the two Xeikon 3500 20-inch wide digital label presses ordered at the recent Labelexpo India in Greater Noida.
The rotaLen is expected to be installed at Zircon’s Dehradun plant in the coming year. SPGPrints has its own company in India known as SPG Prints/ Stovec Industries, which takes care of sales, service and the consumable supplies. Although this is the first sale of the SPG DLE for rotary screens in the graphics arts industry, SPG has already installed 25 DLEs for rotary screen printing on textiles.
