New Delhi-based Chawla Printers has booked a new Komori Enthrone four-color 29-inch printing press (E429), which is expected to be installed at the plant by April 2024. This would be Chawla Printers’ second Komori E429 – the first was installed in March this year.

Chawla Printers specializes in customized printing and packaging jobs, currently focusing on the cosmetics and confectionary industry with customers such as Soni Foods, Ertay chocolates, Sapphire Foods among others. The printer looks to venture into the pharmaceuticals sector as well.

Pankaj Chawla, the owner of Chawla Printers, said he decided to buy a second Komori press looking at the positive yields from the first press. “The decision to invest in the new Komori press stems from the remarkable results from the first Komori E429 installed in March 2023,” Chawla said. He says the Komori press is an ideal machine for his printing jobs — claiming a 30% growth in business after the machine’s commissioning. The press not only bolstered his production capacity but had a positive impact on profit margins as well. He booked the second Komori in August 2023.

The Enthrone is configured with double-size impression and transfer cylinders to ensure consistent performance in the short run for a diverse work mix. With a maximum sheet size of 530x750mm, a maximum printing area of 520x740mm, and a plate size of 605x760mm, the press can accommodate sheet thickness of 0.04mm to 0.6mm. It shortens the time required for changeover between light and heavy stocks because no transfer cylinder gripper pad adjustment is necessary.

In the interaction, Chawla highlighted the shifting customer preferences. Citing the example of the World Cup 2023, he emphasized the strong economy of the country.

According to him, the customers prioritize quality and service over price. “Printers, instead of offering lower prices, should focus on quality and service, which would be beneficial in the long run,” Chawla said. He believes quality and service give Chawla Printers an edge over competitors.

Speaking on the competitive nature of the industry, where newer players are making a foray into the growing packaging sector, Chawla said, “The only way to stay ahead in the curve is to invest in the right machine and technology, which will give you good profits.”

According to Stanley Decastro of Komori India, in the current financial year, the company is still clearing the backlog of machines ordered in the past couple of years. The has installed around a dozen machines to date this year.

Along with the Komori presses, the company has a six-color Heidelberg CD102 with coater for metPET jobs and die cutters and folder gluers from Bobst installed in 2021.
